Phobia
A Short Film
By Gadadhar Montefusco
Summary – A
person deals with drug withdrawal symptoms and hallucinations on a deserted
beach.
The first scene
would establish the setting (a deserted beach) and the protagonist (lying in
the sand on the beach, unconscious, no shoes). After waking up, looking around
and trying to figure out what happened (no memory of the past, bump on the
head, maybe dried blood on clothes which are not in a good condition; ragged,
various tears and stains) the protagonist goes exploring, but out of the corner
of his eye, things will seem out of place (rock blinking, shapes in shadows,
subtle things to establish that things are not what they seem). After trying to
get something to eat for a long while, he
will get lucky (fish, crab, fruit?) and go to sleep/pass out after the
meal. Waking with new strength the next day, the protagonist will go on
exploring.
The film has
two possible endings, one in which the protagonist has no hope of being rescued
and has to survive as best he can (figured out by walking around the island).
This film would
work best in an animated form, maybe in a style similar to ‘The Old Man and the
Sea” the paint on glass animated short film directed by Aleksandr Petrov. This
effect could be achieved with a small budget using filters on a normal hand
drawn animation.
Audio
The film would
be silent apart from ambient sounds and a soundtrack of music in the style of
Hans Zimmer to create a slightly tenser environment as the film progresses.
